A space for reflection and relaxation

The Willow River Garden Club is raising money for the Peggy Grubbs Memorial Garden outside the New Richmond Community Library. The garden will provide a beautiful space for reflection and relaxation for those visiting the Library or attending community events in the area.

The garden will honor the memory of Peggy Grubbs, former New Richmond elementary school teacher, business owner, Garden Club president, and community leader (more information below).

Visitors can see the initial stages of the garden being built now, and donations will help support additional features including benches, a water feature and a pergola.

The goal is to raise $25,000 to complete the garden.

Tax-deductible donations can be sent to Willow River Garden Club at 1491 10th Ave, Star Prairie, WI 54026. Donations of $1,000 or more will receive recognition within the garden space.

In memory of Peggy Grubbs

The garden will honor the memory of Peggy Grubbs, former New Richmond elementary school teacher, business owner, Garden Club president, and community leader.

Peggy made lasting contributions to both her local community and across the globe. She and her husband Will were teachers in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and enjoyed seeing the world on their summer breaks. When they returned home, she taught second grade in New Richmond and then later opened The Emporium – a bookstore, coffee shop, and antique store in New Richmond. She also operated estate sales in the Twin Cities and Western Wisconsin for more than 30 years.

Her infectious energy and caring nature changed lives everywhere she went. Whether she was leading the charge on a community project or encouraging a friend to try something new, she made her mark. She saw the potential in others – sometimes before they saw it in themselves – and encouraged those around her to make bold choices. She actively served her community through her leadership of the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation, the Willow River Garden Club, and at First Lutheran Church.

In 2020, she led the fundraising and organizing efforts to dedicate a Blue Star Memorial marker and garden at the St. Croix River Loop Trail.
